Welcome the Urad Bean

Welcome the urad bean, one of the most recent additions to the metabolic balance® family of foods in the USA! Now there are two types of black lentils for people to enjoy, the tiny black beluga lentil and the urad!

These are small black beans, aka: vigna mungo, black gram, black lentil or urad. Originated in India but a regular ingredient in the South- and South-East-Asian kitchen. The black gram has been in cultivation from ancient times and is one of the most highly prized pulses of India and Pakistan. This black bean is not to be confused with the black turtle bean.

As a new food for the protein category called “legumes”, metabolic balancers might find urad beans listed on their metabolic balance® plan.
